WHAT HAPPENED?
Mourinho returned to his home country after his side's final match of 2024 – a 1-1 draw that was followed by yet another spectacular rant from the Portuguese coach – to undergo the procedure and he has already confirmed he will soon be back in Turkey to resume work with his players.

"Mourinho had a successful gallbladder operation in his country Portugal today. We wish our coach, who is in very good health, a speedy recovery," an update from the Super Lig side read on Monday.

Mourinho has endured a tumultuous debut season in charge of the Istanbul club. They have won just one of their last four matches, with the ex-Real Madrid and Chelsea boss often venting his frustration regarding his players and the level of officiating in Turkey.

Fenerbahce are already eight points behind leaders and reigning champions Galatasaray in the Turkish top-flight and resume the campaign with a match against Hatayspor on January 5. Mourinho is expected to be back on the touchline for the match.
